Principal's Welcome

Tena Koutou Katoa

Welcome to our school's website and particularly those visiting for the first time.

Temuka Primary School  is the largest primary school centrally located within the Temuka township. We are a contributing school,  catering for the needs of Yr1-6 students. Students at Yr7 enrol at Opihi College also in Temuka, for the completion of the Secondary Schooling education.
We believe in building and maintaining strong relationships between our students and their teachers. To promote this, our students are placed with their teachers for two years in our composite Yr1/2 (Team Koru) Yr3/4 (Team Rocket) and Yr5/6 Team Aoraki Learning Teams. Teachers develop these strong relationships and utilise this knowledge to maximise the learning potential of their students.
This year we have five Yr1/2 classes that will begin the year with fifteen students in each. As each  New Entrant starts at age five, they are placed into these 'family' groupings. There are numerous and positive reasons for this and you can read these under the tab General Information which is located on our Home Page.
Our students in Yr3/4 (Team Rocket)  learn in a Collaborative Learning environment.  These students are taught in a flexible learning space that was originally four individual classroom block.  This is our second year of this style of teaching and our students flourish by learning together in this unique opportunity.
We hope to create another exciting learning opportunity with our  three Yr5/6  classes (Team Aoraki) this year as we move to develop this model of Collaborative Learning into the senior part of our school. Planning to renovate these classrooms will be underway later in the year.
